#PicoWay

Updated: Mar 21, 2021

Laser treatments are more popular in the winter months when it's easier to avoid sun exposure; many also like to target sun-induced aging changes seen on the skin of their face, neck, chest and back of the hands from summer and fall fun.

The PicoWay® laser treatment is sought by many and loved by our team (including of course, Dr. Monica!). Here are some reasons why this procedure is a favourite for many at our clinic, as well as a number of Dr. Monica’s colleagues around the world:

1. Trust in the science

The PicoWay® laser treatment can be a safe and effective solution targeting benign brown spots, wrinkles and acne scars. Approved uses of the laser are supported by years of engineering science and clinical research conducted globally.

2. Trust in the process

The PicoWay® laser treatment can be a safer option for those with darker skin tones who inherently have an increased risk of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. As a picosecond laser, the effects of the PicoWay® primarily relies on the speed of the pulse to fragment unwanted pigment and to stimulate new collagen production. It is this mechanism that this type of laser lightens or removes brown spots, soften fine lines and improves acne scars. Because the PicoWay® laser pulses are delivered at one trillionth of a second (it’s that fast!), there is comparatively less heat on the skin - heat that can lead to unintended inflammation, damage, and possible hyperpigmentation and scarring.

3. Trust in the experience

Most individuals find that the PicoWay® laser is easily tolerable, and especially so with topical numbing cream that can be applied for about half hour prior to the treatment. It is a non-invasive procedure that can address multiple aesthetic skin concerns at the same time (for instance, both acne scars and fine lines on facial skin can be targeted simultaneously). Social downtime after the laser treatment for many is limited, typically consisting of mild pinkness and slight edema on the treated areas that last for several days - while for some, virtually none.

4. Trust in the clinician

After all, a laser including the PicoWay® platform is as good as the physician who uses it to deliver natural results. Knowledge, skills and experience are key. Unintended or unexpected effects may uncommonly occur, but a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr. Monica has the abilities and tools to manage them if and when they arise.
