#DebunkingFillersContinued

In this second part of a series, we continue to answer a number of commonly asked questions on dermal filler treatments. Versatile in their uses and purposes, natural and effective in their outcomes, dermal filler treatments are immediate and long-term cosmetic solutions for many. So, let’s dive right into it:

How long do dermal fillers last?

Each dermal filler has specific properties that determines its use, intended longevity and outcome as part of a cosmetic treatment. Generally, dermal fillers last comparatively shorter when placed at an anatomical location where there is more compression and stretch. An example would be dermal filler treatment of the nasolabial fold which is used regularly in our daily facial expressions and activity. The metabolism of an individual may also affect the longevity of dermal fillers – those who are highly active may need to undergo treatments at more regular intervals. Depending on the specific dermal filler, the duration of its effect may range from around six months to more than a year.

Will I look unnatural?

Commonly used dermal fillers consist of hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite. Both are naturally found in our bodies. From our mid-20s onwards, the quality and quantity of collagen and elastin in our skin decline. Dermal filler treatments - particularly when timed on a gradual, interval basis as we age – support our skin’s natural regenerative process by stimulating new collagen production, as well as replenishing our depleted source. When it comes to dermal filler treatments, we clearly hear and understand concerns about unnatural results. We stand by and reflect in our results, our philosophy that cosmetic injectables are not about changing who you are as a person, but bringing out the best version of yourself – so you can look more radiant, well-rested and confident.

When is the best time to start dermal filler treatments?

There is no absolute right time to start dermal filler treatments, because it depends on the cosmetic goals, unique anatomy and changes seen of the skin over time for an individual. Dermal filler treatments are highly customizable – they can be used to rehydrate the skin, improve hollowed regions, reduce skin laxity and crepiness, and contour natural silhouettes – on both the face and beyond. The results of dermal filler treatments when thoughtfully placed can be subtle, soft and natural, regardless of age.

When will I see results?

Depending on the dermal filler used, results can be seen almost instantaneously after treatment. Some dermal fillers may take about a month to see its hydration effects, while others stimulate collagen gradually overtime and natural-looking rejuvenation that can last up to one and half years. It’s important to remember that most dermal fillers draw some water as part of its characteristic, so it can take several days for the cosmetic injectable to fully integrate with your own tissue for the final outcome to be wholly appreciated.
